The Municipal Auditorium in downtown San Antonio is one of the city's premier meeting venues. It was originally built as a World War I veteran's memorial, and it fronts the famed San Antonio River Walk.
The 5,000-seat theater was nearly destroyed in a 1979 fire and underwent extensive renovations in 1985. However the theater still retains its opulent elegance with its elaborate Mediterranean lobby and decorative organ gills that flank either side of the main stage in the auditorium.
The exterior of the building invokes the look of a Southwest mission, and its interior is a unique blend of classic 1920s architecture with modern conveniences. The Municipal Auditorium conveniently adapts to a variety of meeting and performance needs:
- The Mediterranean-style lobby can hold up to 1,000 guests
- The East and West wings on either side of the main lobby each hold 100 guests.
- The lower level of the main auditorium can be used for up to 23,000-square-feet of floor space for exhibits and displays.
